Text Of Press Conference by Prince Uche Secondus, National Chairman of The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on the PDP’s Position on Violence, Killings, Abuse of Human Rights and Rigging in the November 16th Kogi And Bayelsa Governorship Elections.

Gentlemen of the Press,

This afternoon, we’ve invited you to warn Nigerians and the international community that our nation isn’t all right. Our democracy is threatened by a wave of terror; our constitutional order, national unity and the security of our people are now at stake.

As the world witnessed, the official conspiracies, bloodshed and senseless killing of innocent people by agents of the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led government in connivance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to help forcibly seize power in the November 16th Kogi and Bayelsa state governorship elections clearly show that our democracy is under assault.

In an apparently organized attack, the government-controlled police and military, working for the APC, deployed dangerous weapons of assault, including helicopters, to coordinate with maximum force the violent invasion of polling units; shoot, kill and mutilate unarmed civilians, who were called upon by the government to carry out their civic responsibilities at the elections.

The world watched in horror as killer security agents brutalized voters and sent ballot boxes to government facilities were results written in favor of the APC and handed over to reveal a heavily compromised INEC that has become part of the crime.

No less than 30 innocent compatriots have been killed and many more injured by the APC, the Police and INEC in this organized crime against humanity since the report reached our party.

The citizens ‘ only crime was their expressed determination to vote for the candidates of their choice as governors of Kogi and Bayelsa States as clearly shown in the polling center results prior to the powerful seizure of the electoral processes.

Most distressing is the gruesome incineration in her home by APC thugs of one of the woman leaders of our party in Kogi State, Mrs. Acheju Abuh, a crime supported by unscrupulous security officers. Our party believes that it can not be allowed to pass this electoral fraud and crime against humanity, including proven guilty homicide committed by the APC, security agents and INEC.

The leadership of our great party has thoroughly reviewed incontrovertible pieces of documentary of evidence including video clips, graphic pictures, witness testimonies, manipulated results sheets, proofs of compromising of INEC officials and other hard facts to establish the culpability of the Police and INEC in the electoral fraud as well as the unforgiveable culpable homicide and crime against humanity in the elections.

The PDP also reiterates that in this election we have the details of the roles played by the high command of the police and the INEC as well as other security and INEC officials. At the appropriate forum and time, these details will be made public.

It is instructive to draw Nigerians and the international community’s attention to the fact that since the election, the Federal Government of the APC led by President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to take any concrete steps to investigate the issues and bring the guilty to book. The police and INEC also failed to take any decisive action to arrest and investigate their officers accused of involvement in the elections in various crimes. We also noted frenzied police hierarchy efforts to explain the crimes and sweep the killings under the carpet.

These only validate the apprehension that the APC’s premeditated power-grabbing designs included the invasion of polling unit, killings, and alteration of results.

The PDP states without mistake that in our democratic space it can not be allowed to invade polling units and destroy voters to rig election results. If it is allowed to stand the political brigandage of the APC that happened in Kogi and Bayelsa State, that would be extended to other elections, including the general elections of 2023, and that would be a death knell for our democracy.

Therefore, it is a sacred duty that we all owe to our nation to seek redress for this crime within the scope of our national and international laws.

In this regard, the PDP calls for the outright cancelation of the Bayelsa and Kogi States governorship elections as they are bloodshed products and do not reflect the real wishes and expectations of the states ‘ people. We also demand that the Kogi West Senatorial election be cancelled immediately. This is the century’s greatest fraud.

The PDP, standing with millions of Nigerians, also insists that at the correct locations, the INEC and the high command of the police will respond to charges of electoral fraud and crime against humanity.

The PDP therefore calls on the international community and international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the Commonwealth of Nations, the African Union (AU), ECOWAS, to impose immediate sanctions, including travel bans, on the INEC and the Police for abussing their offices and for allegedly assisting or permitting acts that led to electoral fraud.

INEC and the police have a primary duty to ensure free, fair and credible elections. As even reported by agents, voters, stakeholders, and independent election observers, they observed this in the breach. Therefore, they must be made to face the repercussions of serving others as dissuasive.

The PDP leadership once again commends the Kogi and Bayelsa states people during the election for their resilience and resistance to oppressive forces. There will never be such patriotism in vain.

Our leadership also sympathizes with the families of compatriots killed by the APC. Indeed, their death can never be in vain as they will surely be retrieved from the mandate for which they were killed.

In addition, somebody will one day bear the full sentence of guilt in the appropriate quarters, be it within the scope of our domestic laws or those of international laws. Meanwhile, we urge all PDP members to remain strong and undeterred as we collectively work to defend the democracy of our nation.

Bless you and Grace.
